Daoist Priest Li XingHui (Ian Duncan) is the Abbot and founder of Northern Dipper Temple, and more recently Complete Reality Dao.

He teaches Daoist perspectives and practices, with an emphasis on the direct experience of awakening through meditation and inner alchemy.

The conditions for effective meditation and alchemy are established through devotion, self-regulation, and methods of body and breath like DaoYin, and NeiGong, and ZhenGong.

Li’s in-person teaching is focused on small groups of sincere students. He is known for his ability to communicate the subtle and complex wisdom of the Dao with clarity and precision, bridging the contemporary mindscape to that of the profound and open vision of the ancient sages.

He is currently finishing his translations of the Morning and Evening Liturgy of the Daoist Complete Reality (Quanzhen) Lineage, and also the DaoDe Jing.  His book, Mapping the Mystery: Daoist Inner Alchemy in the Diagram of the Inner Realm, is to be published with Singing Dragon (Hachette), but currently remains unfinished.

Li represents the Daoist Complete Reality Dragon Gate Secret Lineage in the West. Quanzhen Longmen An Pai 全真龍門闇派 stewards the ancestral root temple of the Dragon Gate lineage at the Dragon Gate Caves, where patriarch Qiu ChuJi cultivated for 7 years, completing his realization, and where he established this monastic lineage.

He is an ordained 30th generation disciple of retired Abbot Zhu FaYou 朱法友, and is the first westerner and householder to be welcomed into this ancient lineage. It is from this lineage that he carries the Heart Transmission (心法) and its emphasis on compassion, humility, simplicity and virtue. Li’s most committed students have the opportunity to return to this root temple to be ordained as 31st generation Quanzhen priests.

Li is a disciple of Master Wu Zhongxian in the Emei and Hidden Immortal lineages. It is from these lineages that he draws the inner cultivation methods that he practices and teaches, and from Master Wu that he learned the traditional arts of astrology, geomancy, and YiJing.

He is also an ordained 25th generation disciple of Abbot Huang ChengJia of Clear Sky Temple (QingYunGuan) in the Quanzhen Longmen Wudang Xuanwu Lineage. It is from this lineage that he draws his talisman and ritual practice.

Li founded the Northern Dipper Temple and Complete Reality Dao as vessels to support his students and to honor and perpetuate the treasure of the teachings.

In addition to cultivating, teaching, and writing, Ian is a devoted father and husband.

He is currently establishing market gardens on his land in San Cristobal to support family and community.
